In the Scottish Parliament, Murdo Fraser lodged parliamentary questions asking the Scottish Government whether it will make Fife rail services a priority area for investment. Murdo Fraser also asked the Scottish Government to outline the discussions it has had with ScotRail to improve rail services in Fife. In December 2011, Murdo Fraser wrote to Steve Montgomery, Managing Director of ScotRail, to set out the need to reinstate the 08:14 Dalgety Bay to Edinburgh morning service as well as improving Fife rail services. After lodging the parliamentary questions, Murdo Fraser said: “It is important that Fife rail users receive a level of service that reflects the price they are paying for their tickets. “I want to see additional carriages for Fife train services in the morning and it is vital that the ScotRail and the Scottish Government work together and make the Fife area a priority for rail investment. It was wrong of ScotRail to cancel the 08:14 service from Dalgety Bay to Edinburgh and commuters who used this service are extremely frustrated at the changes. We need to see this service returned and I want to see more morning services for Fife commuters. “We all know that morning train services in Fife are already extremely busy. As someone who regularly uses trains in the morning to get from Inverkeithing to Edinburgh, I share the frustration that many commuters have with overcrowding and I do not believe that it is a progressive step to reduce the number of services in the morning. “Thousands of commuters depend on Fife train services and we need a reliable and quality service. It is vital to communities in Fife to have a service that allow commuters to arrive in Edinburgh in good time for work in the morning and that any changes to the timetable enhanced train services in Fife. “I hope that we see positive changes for Fife train services soon and the Scottish Government must realise the importance of making improvements to our services.” ENDS Parliamentary questions: To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will make Fife rails services a priority area for investment To ask the Scottish Executive what recent discussions it has had with ScotRail about improving rail services in Fife, including providing (a) additional carriages on morning services and (b) the higher frequency of services.
