Scottish Conservative politicians Liz Smith MSP and Councillor Roz McCall have expressed their delight at a funding windfall for Strathearn.
The pair were reacting to the announcement from Perth and Kinross Council's Strategic and Policy Resources Committee that £365,000 of additional funding would be provided to the area.
The money will help tackle the issue of dilapidated buildings in Crieff and will also mean that Comrie will be added to the Town Wi-fi scheme.
Commenting, Scottish Conservative MSP Liz Smith, who represents the Mid Scotland and Fife region, said: “This is really excellent news for Strathearn. For far too long, the dilapidated buildings in Crieff have taken their toll not just on the local community who, quite rightly, became increasingly frustrated about the lack of action to deal with the problem, but also in terms of visitor numbers in the town.
“It is also very welcome news that Comrie will be receiving additional funding to support the town’s wi-fi system, something about which local businesses will be especially pleased. Well done to Perth and Kinross Council for delivering an early Christmas present to Strathearn.”
And Councillor Roz McCall, who represents the Strathearn ward, added: “I am delighted to see Crieff receiving funding of £365,000 to help move forward the plans for the dilapidated buildings. The condition of these buildings is of great concern to the local community and I was adamant that we would work to progress plans for onward development.
“Having already secured £600,000 for the Drummond Arms, the additional funding for the Crieff Hotel and the Strathearn Hotel will see an active step forward to the regeneration of Crieff.”
