Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed a new police initiative aimed at curbing dangerous driving on rural roads within Perth and Kinross.
This latest police crackdown follows a recent 10-day operation aimed at reducing road traffic offences on Scotland’s ‘deadliest road’ the A9.
Anti-social driving will be the focus of this latest Police programme and under the Road Traffic and Anti-Social Behaviour legislation officers will have the power to seize and impound offending vehicles.
Commenting on the news Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“The A9 regularly grabs the headlines when Scotland’s deadliest roads are discussed, but this latest police initiative clearly shows that poor driving is more widespread.
“Hopefully, a visible police presence will dissuade motorists from driving recklessly.
“Clearly, road users need greater education on the do’s and don’ts of rural driving, with the police having a role to play in providing information points for drivers.
“I welcome this initiative as part of a broader road safety policy that helps educate road users in safe practice, ultimately leading to less casualties and fatalities on our roads.”
