Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser today helped launch the new Scottish Conservatives energy policy, “Power with Responsibility”.
Key headline points from the manifesto include spacing wind turbines a minimum of 2km from housing, reducing subsidies for onshore wind, and a commitment to exploring shale gas and fourth generation nuclear energy plants.
Commenting Murdo Fraser said;
“The march of the wind farms under Alex Salmond has to be brought to a halt.
“The figures are quite stark - the thousands of turbines in operation, being built or in the planning stage, mean that Scotland will easily overshoot its electricity target.
“This exposes the folly of covering large swathes of our cherished countryside with turbines, in many cases against the will of local communities and councils.
“The Scottish Conservatives have always been in favour of appropriately situated wind farms as part of a balanced energy mix, but as of today the SNP and Alex Salmond have gone too far.
“In pushing through a significant cut to the subsidies these turbines receive we can ensure a better deal for the taxpayer. Balance, security of supply and obtaining the lowest possible energy price will be crucial in pulling thousands of Mid-Scotland and Fife residents out of fuel poverty.”
