Ahead of a meeting with RBS this Friday, Liz Smith MSP and Luke Graham MP, are calling for constituents to get in touch in order for them to put across specific points to bank officials.
Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Liz Smith, and local MP, Luke Graham, are also calling for transparency and engagement from the bank.
Two weeks ago, RBS confirmed that the Comrie branch had won a stay of execution but must demonstrate either substantial new business or increased transactions to remain open permanently.
Liz wants to know what this means in practice as locals are concerned that this move is little more than window-dressing before its eventual closure.
Local MP, Luke Graham, currently has a petition active on the proposed closure and believes RBS must be more transparent and accessible when it comes to their decision-making process.
Commenting Liz Smith MSP said:
“I look forward to meeting RBS officials this Friday and I hope that these discussions prove productive. I am also encouraging local people to get in touch with my office with specific concerns that they would like me to raise with the bank.
“This whole issue has been handled poorly and its high time RBS came forward and met with customers to properly explain their decision.
“Comrie has been handed a reprieve until the end of the year and it’s important that we know exactly what this means and what thresholds are required for it to stay open.”
Commenting Luke Graham MP said:
“Hundreds of constituents have got in touch with me to voice their concern at the proposed closure of RBS Comrie.
“My petition has attracted considerable support, receiving hundreds of signatures, and it’s important that these people get a fair hearing from the bank.
“Ultimately, hundreds of people rely on RBS banking in Comrie and removing this vital lifeline service is not in anyone’s interests. It’s also important that the reprieve Comrie has earned is fair, and that the odds are not stacked against it remaining open.”
