Yesterday’s Beautiful Scotland awards saw three Perthshire communities scoop top awards. Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser took time out to congratulate the winning areas.
Two entrants from the Perth and Kinross area claimed major awards. The victors were: Blairgowrie & Rattray in Bloom- Medium Town Trophy; Coupar Angus Pride of Place – New Entrant Trophy and Large Village Trophy.
In addition to the category trophies presented, gold, silver gilt, silver and bronze medal certificates were awarded to recognise the tireless work of community groups who had improved their local environment. Blairgowrie and Rattray took gold whilst Coupar Angus and ‘Crieff in Leaf’ claimed silver gilt awards.
Commenting on the achievements Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“For Blairgowrie & Rattray, Coupar Angus and Crieff these awards are recognition of their beauty.
“Perthshire boasts some of Britain’s prettiest towns and villages, their upkeep requires tireless work from both volunteers and local authorities. These awards are proof of this work.
“Visitors and residents have marvelled at the cleanliness of the winning towns and villages.
“However, beauty isn’t simply skin deep, these awards vindicate the communities who pull together to eliminate anti-social crimes such as littering and graffiti.”
